Numbers and Recommendations

2022 didn’t have me reading a lot. 18 books. I was focused heavily on getting back up-to-speed on C++ and robotics, which involved an array of online lectures and rereading material from University. As always, I used Audiobooks to listen to fiction and biographies and went through more sciency books on paper (digital or physical).

I especially enjoyed listening to Jade City and reading the mesmerizing short-stories in To Hold up the Sky.

C++ High Performance gave me a boost in using my primary programming language, understanding concepts from c++20, giving me a whole new span of tools to use. I also enjoyed How Linux Works which made me realize how much easier to understand the components of Linux are. Especially when they come as well presented as they do in this book.

We renovated a house this year. So most of the content I consumed online was with regards to construction, plumbing, wiring, interior design and networking.

servethehome.com is a wonderful resource if you want to spend months being uncertain about your networking setup. I might be late to the party, but pinterest’s algorithm worked extremely well for all parties involved to find inspiration for both overall combinations (eg. dark tiles and hardwood flooring with a white kitchen) and for finding specific furniture.

I am also forever indebted to an onslaught of forum users from the early 2000s, who basically answered all my questions about plumbing and construction while I was 2nd grade.

Finally, I have to mention that github’s algorithm for suggesting repositories has been surprisingly helpful.
